visited Jammu & Kashmir by own car via road. I am furnishing details so
that other people can take benefits from our experience. If you are going with
family or with group of four five people and if you want to make this trip as
memorable then go by your own car via road. In the group, if two persons know
the driving then that will be better. By switching, both can drive comfortably.

Distance and Shortest Route:
The road journey from
Delhi to Jammu & Kashmir spans around 650 kilometers, with the quickest
route being via National Highway 44. This picturesque route takes you through
the mesmerizing landscapes of Punjab and the historic town of Pathankot,
offering a perfect blend of scenic beauty and cultural richness. On the way
there are many dhabas & petrol pumps. While going if home made eatable
items and drinking water is with you then that will be better. Petrol price is
costlier in Jammu & Kashmir compare to Punjab & Delhi. So, make sure to
fill your car tank full in Punjab before entering to Jammu & Kashmir.
Passing through valley, on the sides of rivers, through the tunnels etc gives
exciting adventure.
Best Time to Visit J&K:
It is like doing suicide if you are planning to visit Jammu & Kashmir in rainy or winter season by any means. The best time to visit Jammu & Kashmir by road is during the months of April to October, except rainy season. April & May is the best time to visit. In these two months, felled winter snow still there on hill tops. During this period, the weather is pleasant, and the valley is adorned with blooming flowers and lush greenery. The summer months provide a comfortable temperature for road travel, while autumn adds a touch of golden hues to the landscape.
Precautions and Essentials:
Also do not forget to take
medicines for cold, cough, fever, stomach ache, vomiting and upset stomach.
Before starting your journey after consulting a doctor, do not forget to take
medicines so that change climate do not affect your body. Do not forget to take
ID, DL & vehicle papers. While exploring Jammu & Kashmir, it's crucial
to carry warm clothing, especially if you plan to visit during winter. Do not
forget to take rain coat and gum boot. Keep vehicle fast tag charged for tolls.
Additionally, ensure you have a local SIM card for better connectivity in
remote areas or keep post paid airtel SIM active in your mobile because after
few kilometers of Pathankot no any prepaid or other SIM will work except
postpaid airtel SIM. Keep your GPS always on to find routes, hotels and etc.
Avoid taking overtake and fast drive while driving. Stay updated on weather
forecasts, as road conditions may vary. Be aware of security guidelines and
